This paper explores the creation of a social virtual reality experience designed to preserve the history of female political prisoners from Spain’s Franco regime. Using a participatory design approach, the project actively engaged ex-inmates, neighborhood contemporaries, and heritage specialists to co-create an immersive environment featuring authentic testimonies and interactive historical artifacts. By highlighting how diverse groups focus on different elements of the virtual environment based on their unique memories, the project emphasizes the importance of involving all stakeholders to develop meaningful cultural heritage experiences.
