Pilots

Revealing opera

Grand Teatre del Liceu
The Gran Teatre del Liceu is one of the four artistic partners that will create a test pilot led by the music and stage direction in real conditions to answer the question: How can digital technology help involve a community during an opera co-creation process? The Liceu will work on the creation of a community opera with the organisations, associations and people of the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona.

AMPLIFY IMMERSIVE

Immersive technology to help explain the artistic processes involved in the creation of the new opera.

Description of pilot

The Liceu pilot will develop a new opera production with neighbours of the Sant Andreu District, in which the communities involved participate jointly in its co-creation.

The project will reflect the identity of the people and groups involved, who find themselves in a common space as part of the process of artistic creation.  In this sense, the opera will be unique, giving voice to its participants considering it will speak of realities, multiculturalism, language and sounds.

The community will participate in the co-creation  accompanied by artists and professionals from the sector, with the aim of guaranteed access to culture for people in vulnerable situations or those who are far from the operatic world as a tool for training and social integration and that can contribute to four areas of action:

Our goal

The participation of the neighbourhood can be seen in the whole process of artistic creation with the aim of promoting the contribution and social cohesion of the territory through artistic creation and making talent visible. This project looks for a transversal transformation of the institution that aims to activate processes of participation and concretion, as well as generate community synergies, promote the social structuring of the territory through artistic creation, bring opera closer through active participation and offer Liceu professionals an enriching experience.

Challenges

The main challenge is to make the immersive tool easy for users to use and to really help connect two scenarios/stages separated by distance and not help explain the co-creation project of the opera. It has to be a tool designed for end users. Not for the technicians.

The technological solution

Immersive technology to help explain the artistic processes involved in the creation of the new opera to be created with residents of the Sant Andreu district of Barcelona and the organisations that form part of it. Technology will also help us to connect different scenarios/stages that are located in distant spaces

The mission of the Liceu Opera House is to inspire, impact and transform societies and people through the Arts, and specifically through opera.

Expected impact

The impact is based on a human-centric approach that balances tools and their use, so the entire project must offer not only innovative technologies, new ways of working and improved audience experiences, but also sustainable economic models consistent with the beliefs, values and practices of creators and audiences for broader societal benefit.
