1st Family Laboratory
By Lara Matos, CPL
Online session via Zoom
9 March 2026
10:00 – 11:15 CET
The second Artistic Laboratory session continued the process of dialogue and
exploration initiated in the first meeting, bringing together once again the artists from the four AMPLIFY pilots. This meeting focused on two central dimensions of the project: reflection on
artistic co-creation and the presentation of the technological tools currently being developed within AMPLIFY. Through artists’ short contributions and invited presentations, the session aimed to stimulate dialogue between artistic practices, collaborative processes and technological possibilities. As in the previous meeting, the session maintained a relational and exploratory character, creating space for listening, reflection and exchange among artists and project partners. This process contributes to preparing the collaborative work that will take place during the face-to-face Artistic Laboratory in Barcelona next October.

Objectives
To continue building a shared space of exchange among artists from the four pilots.
To reflect on the concept and practices of co-creation in artistic processes.
To introduce and discuss the technological tools being developed within the AMPLIFY project.
To explore how artistic practices and digital technologies may interact in future creative work.
To support artists in preparing for the collaborative laboratory to be held in Barcelona.
These objectives contribute to the broader aim of developing an artistic community within AMPLIFY capable of exploring new forms of digital creativity and collaborative artistic practice.

Participants
The session brought together artists, pilot leaders, technology developers and professionals supporting the human-centred perspective of the project, reinforcing the interdisciplinary nature of AMPLIFY.
The artistic participants were the same artists who attended the first Artistic
Laboratory session, representing the four pilot projects.

Materials and Logistics
Materials
- Online meeting platform (Zoom)
- Presentation slides shared by the invited speakers
- Artistic materials prepared by participants for short sharing moments
Logistics
- Online format combining performative moments, presentationsand collective reflection
- Timeallocatedfor artistic sharing followed by conceptual inputs and open exchange

Methodological Approach
he session followed a participatory and reflective methodology based on:
- Artists sharing experiences from their own practice
- Short conceptual presentations to stimulate reflection
- Collective dialogue between artists and project partners
- An open and exploratory environment encouraging curiosity and exchange
This approach seeks to connect artistic knowledge, critical reflection and technological experimentation within a collaborative process.
Session Structured
- Welcome and Performative Opening
The session began with a short performative moment offered by the CPL pilot as a gesture of welcome to the artists and partners participating in the laboratory.
- Artistic Sharing
Each artist was invited to briefly reflect on two guiding questions:
- What have I recently done in my life related to artistic co-creation?
- What is my current relationship with technology in my artistic practice?
These contributions allowed participants to situate their personal trajectories and experiences within the themes of co-creation and technology.
- Presentation on Co-creation
François Matarasso presented a reflection on the concept of co-creation in the context of artistic and cultural practice.
Co-creation was described as a process in which professional and non-professional artists collaborate as equals, sharing responsibility for the artistic process and defining together the purposes and standards of the work. Within such processes, the outcomes cannot be fully predicted in advance and emerge through the interaction between participants.
The presentation highlighted the importance of openness to experimentation, recognition of diverse forms of knowledge and shared responsibility in creative processes.
- Presentation on AMPLIFY Technological Tools
Pablo Cesar introduced the technological developments currently underway within the AMPLIFY project.
Two main tools were presented:
- AMPLIFY Creative
- AMPLIFY Immersive
These tools aim to create new possibilities for interaction between artists, technology and audiences, opening opportunities to explore digital environments and new forms of collaborative artistic creation.

Reflections and discussion
Co-creation and artistic practice
The artists’ initial contributions revealed different trajectories and experiences related to collaboration and artistic co-creation. These interventions helped situate the various contexts in which artists develop their work, showing that collaborative practices can take different forms depending on artistic languages, cultural contexts and creative dynamics.
The reflection presented by François Matarasso further expanded this perspective, highlighting co-creation as an artistic process based on shared responsibility and collaboration among participants. In this sense, the idea that artistic creation involves openness to experimentation, uncertainty and dialogue appears as an implicit dimension of co-creative artistic practices.
Technology and creative possibilities
The presentation of the AMPLIFY technological tools introduced new elements for reflection on the relationship between art and technology.
Artists’ contributions revealed different starting points regarding the use of technology in their creative processes. In some cases, digital tools are already integrated into artistic practice, while in others the work remains primarily grounded in performative and in-person artistic approaches.
The introduction of AMPLIFY Creative and AMPLIFY Immersive helped situate potential paths for future exploration, opening space to consider how these technologies may support artistic experimentation and collaborative creative processes.
Building an artistic community
The meeting also contributed to strengthening the process of connection among artists from the different pilots.
By creating a space where artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds can meet and exchange perspectives, these sessions gradually support the development of trust, dialogue and mutual recognition. This ongoing process plays an important role in the formation of an artistic community within the AMPLIFY project.
Next Steps
- Continue the cycle of online Artistic Laboratory meetings.
- Deepen reflection on the relationship between artistic practices and digital technologies.
- Gather insights from artists that may inform the design of the face-to-face laboratory.
- Prepare the conceptual and collaborative framework for the Artistic Laboratory to be held in Barcelona.

Conclusions
The second Artistic Laboratory session extended the dialogue initiated in the first meeting by introducing conceptual perspectives on co-creation and the technological developments within the AMPLIFY project.
The combination of artistic sharing, conceptual reflection and technological presentation contributed to strengthening mutual understanding among artists and project partners, while preparing the ground for future collaborative experimentation.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of maintaining an open and human-centred approach to artistic innovation, where technology supports creative exploration and collective artistic processes.
